Hey, that's a cool news. Sun is bringing Java to our lovely platform. What does it mean? Well, this mean that your iPhone will be able to run virtually all java games around that currently runs on other Java phones (90% of the mobile phone market).

Though Sun promises to integrate as much access to iPhone exclusive features -- accelerometer to site one -- I am wondering how Sun would be able to make it this quickly, considering the long-to-market-cycle Sun Java platform currently has -- JCP are processes used to define new features for Java in order to become standard. Well, we'll see. I believe the first delivery will simply integrates standard features.

But -- yes, there's a but -- Sun chose to port Java ME (J2ME), which is a subset of Java dedicated to limited devices such as (former) phones. By the way, does it make sense to compare an iPhone to a say Nokia N70 or a SonyEricsson K750? iPhone is closer to a 2000-PC than a generic today's phone in term of features, speed and memory capacity.

Though that J2ME choice sounds reasonable, I would love they additionally support Java SE. This way we would virtually have all app in the world run without modification on iPhones.

By the way, as a substantial consequence, we will be provided with a J2ME wireless toolkit up and running on the Macs!
